Elections in France

AUGUSTO ZAMORA R.

Has there been a new revolution in France? Have Robespierre's heirs taken power and are they going to establish a new social and economic order, one that dispossesses the banks, overthrows the obscene ruling class and strives to establish a less exploitative, unequal and corrupt system? No, nothing like that, not anything like it. It has happened that an unnatural alliance of communists, social democrats, liberals, greens, ultra-capitalists and high-millionaire soccer players asked to vote against Le Pen's extreme right party and, as it could not be otherwise, they succeeded, so that the Lepenists did not reach the absolute majority necessary to be able to access the government (which, let us not forget, is not the same as accessing power, which are other mysteries, the true ones, which never go to elections).

Due to this predictable fact, they have raised the bells in France and other Atlantic countries, as if it were Hitler's second defeat. European societies are so slimy, simple and de-ideologized today that something stupid like these legislative elections is celebrated as if a new revolution had taken place in France, but it happens that it is quite the opposite.

Let's start by clarifying a question, which my alter ego and I believe is main. We are not in the 20th century, nor do we live in a bipolar world. We are in the 21st century, more precisely, in almost half of the second decade of the 21st century, so that the political, economic and ideological categories - valid half a century ago - today lack validity, content and substance. Trying to explain the phenomena of the 21st century with the outdated categories of the 20th century leads to these confusions and to applauding as a leftist victory the result of the French legislative elections, in which the neoliberal model was not at stake, but rather something else, which is not said. , but which was the nucleus of that atom: Le Pen's party was the only one - we repeat, the only one - that opposed NATO policy in Ukraine. Everyone else - everyone, from the collapsed left to the neoliberal right - were and are convinced Atlanticists and fervent believers in going to war with Russia.

Explaining it another way, the terror of the French and Atlanticist establishment of the Lepenists was not because of their right-wing ideology, but because they had promised that, if they came to power, they would prohibit the sending of French soldiers to Ukraine, they would prevent the use of French weapons against territory. Russian and would reduce assistance to the kyiv regime. In short, they were going to align themselves with other governments opposed to the war, such as the right-wing governments of Hungary and Slovakia. That was the Gordian knot and what was at stake.

The so-called New Popular Front (remembrance of the one formed in the 30s), included in its program the following:

«To thwart Vladimir Putin's war of aggression and hold him accountable for his crimes before international justice: to unwaveringly defend the sovereignty and freedom of the Ukrainian people and the integrity of its borders by delivering the necessary weapons, cancelling its foreign debt, seizing the assets of oligarchs who contribute to the Russian war effort within the framework permitted by international law, sending peacekeeping forces to secure nuclear power plants, in a context of international tension and war on the European continent, and working for the return of peace.»

That is, total war against Russia, in terms that not even the US Department of Defense has used (Biden has, but the President of the US no longer knows where he stands, literally, and would fit better as leader of the World League. of Zombies, of which Macron and Scholtz are already part).

Did the left win? No. The Atlanticist establishment won by a landslide, which, for the moment, has managed to ward off the threat of a Hungarian-style French government, which would have been a disaster for its anti-Russian policy. Because a wayward Hungary, with Viktor Orbán as president, meeting with Putin in Moscow, horror of horrors, is not the same! -, that a France whose prime minister could do what Orbán did and fly to Russia to chat with Vladimiro. That Hungary is a small State and France is the second European economy.

It matters little to Atlanticists who governs which country in Europe, as long as they do not go off the warpath. There you have Meloni, in Italy, who is from Le Pen's league, ruling happily, because she faithfully follows NATO guidelines. Greece is ruled by right-wing cannibals and who hears anything about Greece? They won't even hear. The US has it as the main port for unloading weapons and ammunition for Ukraine, which then follow the route through Bulgaria and Romania, until they reach the hands of the butchers of kyiv.

So no. There was no struggle in France between communist partisans and Goebbels' legions. Not at all. Those categories disappeared with the 20th century and with the assassination of the Soviet Union. Now the left is - without forgetting our identifying marks of all power to the soviets - the fight against NATO and everything it represents; the fight against the obscene and immoral accumulation of national and world capital in fewer and fewer hands; multipolarity and UN decolonization. Those things, none of which were at issue in France.

It's time to update categories to distinguish between what is today the left and what is still the right, since Asurbanipal. That the right changes little in the substantive, although it has no problem changing in the adjective. Don't forget, if you do, you may end up applauding the Atlantic Alliance and looking like Biden, a man who is not worthy, being compassionate, which this man is not.
