Biden maintains his unconditional support for Israel just one year before the elections

With less than a year left until the November 2024 US elections, President Joe Biden insists on maintaining his unconditional support for Israel in Israel's war against the entire Gaza Strip, and not just against Hamas, an attitude which could cost the Democratic Party a good handful of votes, especially among young people.

An important sector of Biden voters, and not only young people, view with disgust the images that television broadcasts daily with Palestinian women and children injured or killed by the bombs that the United States sends to Israel through an airlift that works with the accuracy of a Swiss watch twenty-four hours a day.

Biden will most likely face Donald Trump in the November elections and today the result seems uncertain, which means that the Democratic president will have to fight for each of the votes in contention, since Trump will do the same and is not It is clear which of the two will reach their second term in the White House.

If Trump wins, the internal and external image of the United States may undergo a Copernican turn. During his first term, the controversial magnate marked a path that deviates substantially from the traditional path of the United States in foreign policy, and if he wins again he will undoubtedly apply policies whose significance is unknown to the entire world.

Biden and the Democrats are aware of the crucial situation in which they find themselves, so they will fight with all their might to attract the entire Democratic vote. In this pre-electoral context, many do not understand very well that Biden has given the green light to Israel to flatten the north of the Strip “like a parking lot” in a war directed against the entire civilian population and not just against the militants.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have had to abandon their destroyed homes in the north and south of the Strip. Women and children are dying by the thousands, not only from the bombs, but also in the hospitals of Gaza City, without electricity and without thousands of wounded being able to receive minimal care from doctors.

The disturbing images reach American homes directly, sowing confusion among many Democrats who are aware that the bombs used by Israel are manufactured in their country and with their taxes. In particular, the sensibilities of many young voters are challenged by what they are seeing on television and social media.

There are polls that show that many young Democrats question their voting intentions. This may be an indication that Biden must intervene soon to stop the madness of war and prevent the images from continuing to affect the brains of voters who are doubtful and do not rule out abstaining from the elections because of the war.

Biden, whose relations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had not been excellent during the first three years of his mandate, has put his powerful military capacity at the service of Israel, not only by sending weapons and ammunition, but also by sending two aircraft carriers to the eastern Mediterranean in an unprecedented decision.

The official policy of the White House is to encourage negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians that lead to peace with a two-state solution. Although Biden has said this (Trump did not say it during his term) on multiple occasions, this official policy is not in line with the complete absence of actions by the United States administration in this regard.

At the end of the war, Biden should reinforce his foreign policy to resolve the conflict with the two-state solution, although this intention must be quarantined, since it is very doubtful that the president will embark on adventures of such a complex nature when The elections are just a few months away.

Another question would be to act after the election, assuming Biden wins it. However, no American president since George Bush Sr., when he called the Madrid Conference in 1991, has put Israel against the wall. With this background, it does not seem very likely that Biden will dare to challenge Israeli officials even if he wins the elections.
